Small Business Grants for Tax Counseling for Seniors
The U.S. government offers quite a few grants and cooperative agreements to nonprofit organizations and small enterprises from many of its agencies. One such grant delivers money for nonprofit establishments to offer counseling to senior citizens to assist with completing their own annual taxation statements.
The Internal Revenue Service has designated $5.1 Million in the 2011 Budgetary Year to support the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (T.C.E.) Program
The IRS, which operates inside the Treasury Department is approved to enter into agreements with private or non-governmental nonprofit 501c(3)’s that deliver instruction and technical guidance to volunteers that provide cost-free tax counseling and assistance to seniors that are age 60 or older for the completion of their U.S. tax returns.
Grants may be used to compensate volunteers for incidental expenses including transportation, meals and other expenses incurred by them in offering tax counseling help at places convenient for the older persons.
Through a competitive process, applicable candidate groups and agencies compete for approval to be a T.C.E. sponsor. These organizations should be a nonprofit organization experienced in coordinating volunteer programs, with familiarity with the tax completion process.
Skilled businesses can obtain grants to offer regional Counseling Programs. Tax return submission help is furnished to seniors through the entire traditional Federal Tax filing timeframe, which is from the 1st of January through the 15th of April annually. Additionally the guidance activities needed to make sure that senior-citizen taxpayers receive effective tax assistance of the highest quality may be performed throughout the year.
The Cooperative Agreement between the Internal Revenue Service and the nonprofit organization specifies the tasks that the program sponsor and IRS will execute, the geographical region involved, the maximum amount of financing provided for reimbursement and administrative purposes as well as other data.
Commencing with the 2011 Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program, multi-year funding opportunities are available for not for profit groups which are qualified and satisfy the specified requirements.
Groups submitting an application may choose, if they are interested in being considered for a multi-year T.C.E. grant. Consideration is restricted to those candidates that satisfy all eligibility requirements.
Approval from the IRS of an entity to the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program for one year does not necessarily imply the organization is going to be accepted into the T.C.E. program in ensuing years.
A nonprofit organization that is accepted to offer T.C.E. services is responsible for all aspects of running a T.C.E. System which includes, but not limited to marketing the program, volunteer recruitment and instruction, Website design and construction and outreach to senior citizens in their region.
